Catharina Holmberg<\/strong>, artiste textile, r\u00e9side dans le sud de la Bretagne, en France. Originaire de Su\u00e8de, elle a grandi \u00e0 la campagne su\u00e9doise avant de s\u2019installer \u00e0 Paris, puis au Royaume-Uni pour ses \u00e9tudes et son travail. Finalement, elle a trouv\u00e9 son havre de paix dans la campagne bretonne, au bord de la mer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En 2019, Catharina s\u2019est initie au tissage, red\u00e9couvrant ainsi une passion connue pendant son enfance. Cette r\u00e9v\u00e9lation l\u2019a conduite \u00e0 se former comme tisserande, dans le but de renouer avec ses racines et son h\u00e9ritage culturel su\u00e9dois. Elle a cr\u00e9\u00e9\u00a0v[\u00e8]va<\/strong>, explorant le tissage avec des mat\u00e9riaux recycl\u00e9s et cherchant \u00e0 s\u2019\u00e9loigner du traditionnel tapis en lirette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En septembre 2022, elle entame une r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 BREF Rive Gauche<\/strong>, un lieu d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux artistes. Cette \u00e9tape marque un tournant dans sa pratique, lui permettant d\u2019exprimer sa cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re plus personnelle et artistique. Le fruit de ses recherches a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9es lors de l\u2019exposition \u00ab Uppkomst \u00bb en octobre 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, Catharina poursuit son travail et ses recherches propres, tout en partageant sa passion pour le tissage avec d\u2019autres en travaillant avec d\u2019une part des groupes scolaire et d\u2019autres part des associations. Elle consid\u00e8re le tissage comme un langage universel, ancr\u00e9 dans l\u2019histoire de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 depuis la pr\u00e9histoire, pr\u00e9sent dans toutes les cultures du monde. Chacun de nous a un lien avec un textile, transmis de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration en g\u00e9n\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab \u00c0 ce jour, je crois dans le pouvoir du tissage, en tant que technique et symbole regorgeant de possibilit\u00e9s pour cr\u00e9er et \u00e9tablir des connexions. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Sweden, grown up in the Swedish countryside then moved to Paris, France. From there she moved to the UK to study and work. After London and Paris again, she settled in the countryside by the sea in Brittany, France. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, as a gift to herself, she did an introduction course to weaving as it was something she had done as a child in Sweden. Rediscovering weaving was a revelation. The technique and the possibilities that it has to offer. She then trained as a weaver. This process was also part of a desire to come closer to her roots and tie closer links to her Swedish cultural heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the beginning she created v[\u00e8]va and weaved objects with a utilitarian dimension. Always having closed to heart the notion of upcycling material. Naturally exploring weaving with rags, however trying to move away from the traditional rag rug. Furthermore, finding linen from small scale industry, the end of the spools that the machine can no longer weave a manual weaver can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2022, she begins a residency at BREF Rive Gauche, a hive for artists. This is a real turning point, where her practice took on a new dimension. One of much more personal and artistic expression. This research was exhibited in the exhibition \u201cUppkomst\u201d in October 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today she continues her work and research there, creating and producing. This space has also given her the opportunity to open up her workshop and practice to share and transmit her love of weaving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The basics of the weaving has been part of humankind life since prehistoric times and can be found in every culture around the world, from Sweden to France, Africa to China, Russia to Chile\u2026 Many of us have a textile of some sort that we love and that has been passed down from one generation to another. Catharina\u2019s current research evolves a lot around this idea of weaving as a universal language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
